About Richard Nixon
While many photographers are fascinated by the natural landscape I have always found the man made environment more interesting, with it’s regular shapes, structures, and lines.
Most interesting of all to me are public spaces, modern office and industrial buildings, and even Supermarkets. All of these provide the opportunity for clean and simple architectural images, but often I see details out of the corner of my eye which make me stop, turn around and look more closely. The result is this collection of Abstract photographs.
Some of the images here are are derived from patches of paint over graffiti. The new paint never matches what is already there, and small areas of this create abstract images which were never intended.
Other photographs are simply painted buildings, or parts of buildings, where excluding recognisable elements leaves behind an uncomplicated abstract image.
These images aren’t supposed to depict a particular place or object, they are just bands and blocks of colour. But while taking the photographs and selecting which ones to print I have an emotional response to some more than others. In effect the images I print select themselves by the effect they have on me at a subconscious level.
When viewing these photographs try not to think about what they are or could be, just pause and look at them for a while. Let go of the conscious need to analyse what you’re seeing, and maybe you’ll drift off into your own subconscious thoughts and have an emotional response to images.
